Slowly wending our way back to Connecticut from beautiful Hawaii, sitting in the America West Club in Phoenix, catching up on feeds, and what do I see? This:
"It's a real problem," says Jack Trout, a veteran marketing consultant at Trout & Partners, in Greenwich, Conn. "And the problem gets bigger the more people see this stuff. It begins to muddy the message." He concludes: "The ad industry should rise up against" amateur ads.
So, here's Jack Trout, one of the big names in brand development (haven't read his books?; here's a synopsis: brands should differentiate from the competition and focus on the [hopefully singular] point of differentiation) saying that the ad industry, the freakin' ad industry for cripe's sake, should rise up (that would be something to see, eh?) against amateur ads. What would that uprising look like, do you suppose, Jack? Donnie Deutsch in his black t-shirt smackin' kids around for hacking X-Box ads? How about lawsuits preventing bloggers from using a company's name in a non-brand-message approved fashion? Yeah, that's the ticket!
Please. The power structure is obviously so threatened by what's going on out here that some of the big-timers are starting to become delerious.
Think, "cats" and "bags," Jack.

And here, from earthlink news headlines, is another example of someone who thinks they are in control and is clueless about conversation. (She actually has the audacity to quote Rosa Parks among others in her speec in an attempt to twist France's opposition to the Iraq war.)
"Rice Tells Europe to Move Past Conflicts
February 08, 2005 11:48 AM EST
PARIS - Trying to mend fences with Europe, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday "it is time to turn away from the disagreements of the past" that alienated longtime allies over the U.S. invasion of Iraq."

I've seldom seen telling people to "get over it" to work, have you, Connie? Typically has just the opposite effect, n'est pas?
