Thanks, to Scoble's link blog, this from InfoWorld's Ephraim Schwartz. Schwartz interviewed Sapient's CTO, Ben Gaucherin. In the interview, Gaucherin says blogs, “are a fad fueled by pop culture’s desperate search for the next big thing.”
And later, he says that blogs are the digital equivalent to the pet rock.
I'm sure Ben's a smart guy. He's CIO of a large IT consulting firm, so he's got to be. But, what is it that causes people to say such stupid things to journalists? Pet rock? Millions of people writing about everything from the latest technology to hiccup remedies? And this is the same as kids carrying around a rock in the 70s?
Now, Ben's in an industry where about half of all large projects come in either over budget or late. Are there any ways blogs might help his company? Ask Microsoft. Ask Sun.
Some people are just oppositional by nature.

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."
-Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943
"640K ought to be enough for anybody."
-Bill Gates, 1981
Stick to your Visio, Ben.

D'oh! I put in a stupid placeholder blog entry while I'm out of town on a business trip and you use me as an example. That'll teach me. ;)
