Here's Bob Lutz, perhaps responding to a good natured jibe from this site, saying "it's better to crow than eat crow." Bob's crowin' happy today because GM's cars scored remarkably well in the JD Powers Initial Quality Survey. This on the heels of some great numbers from the folks at Strategic Vision. While the Strategic Vision metrics focus mostly on the all-important emotional connection (albeit quality-based) customers make with brands, the folks at Powers are more nuts and bolts, engineering-focused.
This quote from the Market Watch coverage of the survey results gives us some idea of why Bob's feeling his oats:
If General Motors isn't careful, the Detroit giant might become better known for the reliability of its vehicles than for big trucks and raw horsepower.
In J.D. Powers' 2005 Initial Quality Study, five GM models garnered top honors in their respective categories, with Buick, Cadillac, Hummer and GMC brands all beating the industry average.
"The 2005 IQS results contain some genuinely good news for General Motors," said J.D. Power analyst Chance Parker. "The improvements of the quality of several models and at their North American plants are both very positive signs."
You know, when you've been getting you're backside kicked for months on end, like the GM execs have, stories like this have to give you some realistic hope that you can find a way out of this mess. Anybody can bullshit, but these are real results.
Congratulations to the folks at GM.

Fantastic news that GM took the Gold, Silver and Bronze in the mid size luxury car category in the latest JD Power Quality Survey. They have every right to crow about this ... All GM product - Impala, Grand Prix, Buick LaCrosse all were better than Camry and the Accord!!!
Yet, it is unbelievable to note that not a single TV ad yet from GM talking about this ... I thought Lutz said they are going to move fast ... 10 days not long enough? This is as fast as they can go? Not proud of this accomplishment?
However, people ...If you own any of these, feel proud to be driving the best.. If you drive something else, time to test drive one of these ...
