I was just watching Imus on MSNBC while catching up on my RSS fees, and an ad came on the TV. I'm only half paying attention, of course, but I hear a female announcer saying something like:
Join us for our September 11th Sale for some of our best prices of the year...
And I jerk my head up from the keyboard, and look at the screen in complete disbelief, seeing images of balloons and confetti. I utter my first aloud words of the day: "you've got to be f****** kidding...," waiting to see who could be this crass and dumb.
The screen goes black. Now I'm very eager to see the name of this completely clueless retailer...
And then, a simple line of white text appears:
Let's figure out how to remember September 11th before somebody else does...
Visit nycremembers.org
Wow. That's one effective spot. And one important sentiment.

Very effective spot. Thanks for highlighting it and the website. I cannot help but wonder if it ad was inspired in part as a response to the Pentagon hosting a 9/11 march. (See this article in the Daily News for a little more information)
The news also reignited debate and anger over linking Sept. 11 with the war in Iraq.
"That piece of it is disturbing since we all know now there was no connection," said Paul Rieckhoff, an Iraq veteran who heads Operation Truth, an anti-administration military booster.
Rieckhoff suggested the event was an ill-conceived publicity stunt. "I think it's clear that their public opinion polls are in the toilet," he said.
Rumsfeld's walk had some relatives of 9/11 victims fuming.
"How about telling Mr. Rumsfeld to leave the memories of Sept. 11 victims to the families?" said Monica Gabrielle, who lost her husband in the attacks.
