Well, some actual interaction on the GM Fastlane Blog! Wonder of wonders.
Mark LaNeve came back at the commenters to say we'd gotten his attention. Isn't that the point?
Anyway, Mark's responding to folks who complained about his use of the blog to sell (not guilty), and to defend against the charge that the Reg Tag Sale (sorry, "Event") was business as usual in a definitely not business as usual world (guilty as charged: that's 30,000 layoffs announced today, Mark.)
Read this:
Red Tag...supports our efforts to close the gap between MSRPs and what you actually pay for a car or truck. Programs like this will always be part of our business. That's just the way it is. They make our business more exciting, and when we do them well they set GM apart from the competition.
Now, I'm sure promotional pricing will be around long after I'm gone. But, how does this kind of sale set GM apart from the competition? Where's the imagination, for crying out loud? Where's the creativity? Where's the idea that gets the readers of this blog, many of whom love GM for cripes sake!, to sit up and say, "way to go, Mark!!"?? It's not another Red Tag Event, that's for sure.
Look, Mark, I think that's most of what the feedback's been about. Not that you can't have a sale. But that you somehow seem to believe that having a sale gets it done. It doesn't.
And, careful with saying, "read my lips." It's bizarre and makes you sound like an oxymoron: an overage adolescent.
