That's Steve Harrington (sorry, Steve, I can't find your blog link), James Cherkoff, Howard Mann, Johnnie Moore and yours truly at dinner last evening at New York's fine Becco Restaurant. Becco ("beak" in Italian) is a great place for you NY visitors to go for reasonably priced terrific food, served in a fun atmosphere. Last evening's gathering really demonstrates the power of blogging. Johnnie and I have been communicating with one another for more than a year, and on a trip to NYC several months ago, he introduced me to Howard, another NY blogger. James and Johnnie work together doing "Open Sauce" improv facilitation, and James and Steve connected through their respective blogs. We sat there and had almost three hours of lively conversation last evening with the familiarity of good friends, despite only having spent a relatively few hours in one another's company. Our blogs had broken lots of ice for us.
Steve posed an interesting case study for "long tail" marketing, and I was very impressed by our similar yet varied approaches to the question. I'm not sure five consultants who'd never had the kind of online connections we have would have taken up the call as quickly and eagerly. Oh, and the whole evening was great fun.
If we do this again, we'll be sure to try to include other Metro NY bloggers in the mix. Who knows? "Geeks At The Beak" could become a regular event!
