It's Friday, and here's today's Featured Foto:
This is another shot demonstrating the richness of the NY Subway system ecosystem. If you ever ride the trains, you'll see a slew of entertainers of all kinds performing at major stops throughout the system. Guitar players, sax players, Chinese bow instrument performers, Andean pipe bands, or doo-wap groups are common. But here we have the first tap dancing duo I've ever seen, doing their act at the Union Square station. They were pretty good and seemed to have a lot of fun.
There's talent everywhere. One of the differences between those we see performing on TV and the ones in the subway is luck. We're not all that inclined to ascribe our successes to luck, but I believe it's a key factor. Right place, right time has resulted in more "discoveries" than many planful researchers care to admit. I see it in design work every day. A designer happens on a store, sees a color, or finds an image that triggers a new idea. Luck.
I once heard a quote attributed to Oliver Wendell Holmes, which may be apocryphal, but which makes sense to me:
I've been very lucky in my legal research. Most often I find that I get lucky in the library at about 3 A.M.
Hope these tappers get just as lucky.
