I said I wasn't gonna do this again, but today's edition of Ze Frank's blog, vlog, comedy schtick, whatever, The Show was too good not to note.
Check this out:
That's what's happening: experts being poked and prodded by newly aware amateurs who now gain greater respect for experts as they begin climbing the ladder of expertise themselves, and re-defining the ladder in the process.

Further validation of something that you taught me many years ago, Obi-Wan. That "taste" doesn't really exist.

"Taste" is an illusion, a social construction that, like all social constructions, can turn on a whim. Students of history, which I am not, can show us thousands of examples of the twists/turns of taste over time, each overturning beliefs previously held inviolate. Our age is particularly given to those changes, I believe, given the devolution of adherence to the dictates of centralized authorities of all kinds. Where we once looked outward to the single-source guardians of taste, today we scan interior and exterior possibilities, which we mix and match liberally.
Bad time to be a guru who takes himself too seriously!
