One of the best things about a great conference like Pop!Tech is the ideas that burble up later. I just recalled one that was cited by one of the speakers, but I can't recall whom.
No matter.
A professor assigned a research project to his class. One half was told they could only do their research in the physical world: the university's library system. The other was instructed to only use the Internet. According to the speaker:
The prof had to discontinue the experiment after a very brief period because the Internet group was wiping the floor with the other group. It wasn't even close.
Those of us of a certain age know the joys and horrors of library research. I can't imagine writing my doctoral dissertation with the Internet at my disposal, just as I'm sure today's candidates can't imagine writing theirs without it.
